Gulab Jamuns are a favorite dessert in my family across generations :). My mom and grandma prepared so many varieties of sweets/mithai/desserts, still Gulab Jamun always topped the list. This festive season wanted to share one of the recent versions of Gulab Jamuns I have been making by incorporating almond flour into the dough which gives it a nutty taste and also can avoid buying store bought Gulab Jamun mix which comes in big packets. All the ingredients used for the dough are staple pantry ingredients. Do try it out, this festival season.

for sugar syrup:
Ingredients
sugar 2 cups
water 3/4 cup
cardamom 1 pod
Method
Mix all the ingredients in a pan and bring it to a boil, continue to cook till the sugar dissolves.
for Gulab Jamun:
Ingredients
milk powder 1 1/2 cups
almond flour 3/4 cup
all-purpose flour 1/4 cup
baking soda 3/4 tsp
tapioca flour 1 tsp
rose water 1/2 tsp (optional)
Method
Mix all ingredients for the Gulab Jamun into a soft dough( NOTE: don’t knead the dough a lot, just mix till everything comes together).
Divide the dough into small lemon sized jamun balls, roll them and set aside.
Heat oil in a pan for deep frying.
Deep fry the jamun balls on low-medium heat till golden brown and transfer them to a plate lined with paper towel.
Let it rest on the paper towel for 2-3 mins.
Add the deep fried Gulab Jamun balls into the hot sugar syrup.
Let it soak for about 20-25 mins in the syrup and it’s ready to be served.
