Besan ladoo is a dessert made with gram flour, sugar and nuts. After I moved to US, it was the first time I was celebrating festivals staying away from home. I was super excited to celebrate all the festivals and wanted to follow the rituals my mom does. Celebrating festivals calls for making a sweet dish. It was during Navaratri, a 10 day celebration, I was talking to my mom around the festival and was wondering what easy sweet I could make. As I had not tried to make anything other than semiya kheer or jamun till then. She said I could try to make besan ladoo and gave me the recipe. I went ahead and followed the recipe. It turned out great. I was so excited that I could make besan ladoo so easily as it needed few ingredients and also the process was simple.
Ingredients
melted ghee 1/2 cup
besan flour 1 1/2 cups
sugar 1 cup
cashew halves 1 tblsp
raisins 1 tblsp
elaichi 1/2 tsp
Method
Toast the cashews and raisins in ghee and set aside
Heat ghee in large skillet on medium low heat.
Add besan once the ghee is warmed up.
Cook this mixture on low-medium heat for 20 mins, stirring constantly.
Continue to stir till the mixture doesn’t taste raw, and comes together like a dough with golden color.
Remove from heat.
Add sugar, elaichi, toasted cashews and raisins.
Mix well and let it cool for few minutes.
When the mixture is slightly warm, take a tablespoon of the mixture and shape it into a ball.
Enjoy the soft creamy textured ladoos !!
