Horsegram has many health benefits. In the effort to incorporate this into my daily recipes, idli was one of them which turned out very good. The color of the idli was light brown, but the texture and taste were not altered.
idli rice 3 cups
horsegram 1 cup
urddhal 2 cups
poha 1/2 cup
oil as required
salt to taste
Wash and soak idli rice, horsegram, urdhal and poha in water for 6-8 hrs.
Grind the soaked ingredients into a fine paste and make it like a pancake consistency.
Let the batter ferment overnight.
Add salt to taste and mix the batter well.
Apply oil to the idli plates, pour one spoonful of batter to each of the portions.
Steam the idli batter in the plates in idli cooker for 8-10 mins, till idlis are done.
Remove the idli plates from the cooker and let sit for 2-3 mins.
Take out the idlis with the help of spoon and serve with korma or coriander chutney or sambar ..
