Palak paneer is very popular gravy dish in the northern part of India. It is very simple dish that has a great blend of spices and has a creamy taste. This Punjabi style palak paneer has so lil spice but it is very tasty. Paneer (cottage cheese) is added to the spinach gravy and simmered for a few mins.
This recipe is very close to me, as it was one of the first recipes I made when my cooking journey started. Had to take the palak paneer to a potluck with lot of experienced cooks. This made me very anxious. Folks did like it and got many praises :)..
spinach 5 cups, washed
oil 4 tsp
onions 1 big, finely chopped
garlic 4 cloves, finely chopped/grated
ginger 1 inch, finely chopped/grated
green chillies 2, finely chopped
turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
tomato 1, finely cut
red chili powder 1/4 tsp
garam masala 1 tsp
fresh cream 2 tbsp or milk 1/2 cup
paneer 1/2 cup, cut into triangles or cubes
water 2 tbsp
salt to taste
Cook the palak in the microwave for 2-3 mins with very lil water, drain.
Blend cooked spinach into a smooth purée. Set aside.
Heat oil in a pan.
Add the onions and sauté on a medium flame till they turn translucent.
Add the garlic, ginger, green chillies and turmeric powder.
Sauté on a medium flame for 1 to 2 minutes.
Add the finely cut tomatoes, sauté till the oil separates from the mixture with continuous stirring.
Mix in the spinach puree and water.
Cook on a medium flame for 2 minutes.
Add salt, garam masala and fresh cream and mix well.
Mix in the paneer gently and cook on a medium flame for another 1 to 2 minutes.
Serve hot with rotis/naan/jeera rice.
